Venues in (NE) Kansas
Living in Topeka for the past year has allowed me to really expand my knowledge of local venues. These are just a few that I've found for each city. If you know of more please let me know! I'm always looking for new places to visit.
I'll also leave a little star by each place I've visited and loved.
I'll also leave a little star by each place I've visited and loved.
- Topeka-
- While there aren't a ton of spots in Top City here are my favorite
- The Legendary Booby Trap Bar (yes really)*
- While the title may be scary, the Trap Bar is known in Topeka as a great spot for local and regional acts. The tickets and drinks are always reasonably priced and sometimes they even do free concert series. Max Capacity: ~150 people.
- The Landing Grille and Bar *
- Occasionally, The Landing puts on a little local show or two. A nice small place with great food. Max Capacity: ~200 people.
- The Lazy Toad*
- Great little bar that puts on shows fairly regularly. They have a show schedule every month, so you know what to expect. Great food and drinks as well so what's not to love! Max Capacity: ~250/300 people.
- The Celtic Fox
- Little Irish pub that brings in all sorts of bands and events. The food is great and the entertainment is better. Max Capacity: ~200 people.
- Lawrence-
- Lawrence is the same as Topeka, there aren't a whole lot of venues there but unlike Topeka, the venues in Lawrence are much better known.
- The Granada Theater*
- Great place to see semi-popular to some super popular bands. Good prices, no food but a great bar, and great staff. Has a show almost every night. Max Capacity: ~400/500 people.
- The Bottleneck
- Second most popular spot in town. Normally only runs local bands but has been known to host popular bands occasionally. Max Capacity: ~300 people.
- Replay Lounge
- Honestly, I just found out about this place while writing this post! Seems like a nice spot for local artists.
- Liberty Hall
- This venue also doubles as a theater but don't be fooled; they host live bands all the time. Pretty nice spot in Lawrence that hosts local and regional bands.
- Kansas City-
- KC is definitely the most music-friendly city from Kansas from this list. To be fair, it's also the largest one.
- The Midland (Aka Arvest Bank Theater at the Midland)*
- Great, Larger venue! Beautiful interior, awesome sound system, and great AC (no really it's important). Hosts mostly regional and mainstream acts. Max Capacity: >500 people.
- Uptown Theater*
- Another larger venue. Also a beautiful interior, great sound system, however, sold out shows get really hot in there so don't forget to drink lots of water. Max Capacity: >500 people.
- The Truman*
- The newest larger venue in KC. Large, open interior, amazing acoustics and sound, and great AC. Hosts mostly large alternative bands. Max Capacity: ~1000 people.
- CrossroadsKC at Grinder's
- Larger outdoor venue in KC. Hosts all different types and kinds of acts. That's all I know... Max Capacity: >500 people.
- Starlight Theater
- Another large outdoor venue. Hosts all kinds of acts. Max Capacity: >1,000 people.
- The Riot Room
- Indoor, smaller venue. Most shows 21+. Mostly host semi-popular and local rock/metal/heavy bands. Max Capacity: ~500 people.
- The Madrid Theater
- Indoor venue. Mostly used for private events but they are known to host a concert or two occasionally with all kinds of different genres of music. Max Capacity: ~250.
- RecordBar*
- Small, SMALL indoor venue. Mostly little alternative or up-and-coming alternative/alt rock bands. Great acoustics. They serve food! Max Capacity: ~250 people.
- Providence Amphitheater*
- This is a little outside of KC in Bonner Springs, but I still think it's worth mentioning. Large outdoor venue. Hosts all kinds of large bands and events. Great sound and staff. Some seating. Max Capacity: >5,000 people.
- There's a host of other bars and clubs I have yet to find so let me know if I missed any!
Up next! Nebraska!
