Concert Basics
Hey everybody!
I realized that I kind of put the cart before the horse for some of you by telling you about bands and concerts but not really giving you the Concerts 101 talk. So here we go.
Concerts 101:
I realized that I kind of put the cart before the horse for some of you by telling you about bands and concerts but not really giving you the Concerts 101 talk. So here we go.
Concerts 101:
- Wear layers. Especially in the winter.
- Layers are easily removed and added. My concert go-to outfit is always a tank top and a flannel (or light jacket) and then either shorts (in the summer) or jeans (in the winter). The reason? Because when it's chilly outside it's nice to have a light jacket but once you get inside the venue you're going to want to strip because everyone will be sweating and it will be hot. It's also really easy to tie a flannel around your waist so you don't have to worry about losing it.
- Bring a small bag (if the venue allows them).
- There is nothing more annoying than having to carry band merchandise around at a show. Bring a small drawstring bag or something of the like eliminates the need for you to hold the merchandise without setting it down somewhere. Trust me.
- If outside, BRING SUNSCREEN.
- Especially if it's an all-day festival. I don't care if you think wearing sunscreen makes you look "weak" you will be kicking yourself later when you're nursing a nasty sunburn. Also getting sunburnt makes you tired and, if super severe, can make you sick. Thus ruining your day. So just wear sunscreen please...
- Drink plenty of water.
- If you are outside or in a hot venue with little air circulation (trust me it happens), it's super SUPER important that you stay hydrated. You may feel fine but trust me when I say it catches up with you. If you don't drink water, you run the risk of passing out mid-show. And don't give me the "oh that doesn't happen to me I'm tough" bull. I've seen a grown man drop to the floor like a ragdoll from dehydration. Hydrate or DYEdrate my friends.
- Be polite to the venue people.
- Honestly just be polite to everyone. The other concertgoers are there for a good time and the people working the venue are just trying to bring food home. Don't make their jobs any harder than they need to be.
- Lastly: HAVE FUN!
- I know this is super cliche but honestly. You're going to a concert to have a good time. Make sure you do that! Take that time to forget about all the stresses and worries of your life and just enjoy the music. You've earned it. If you want to jump into the moss pit by all means, just do it safely. More of that in a later post.
That's just a few of the basics tips I have for people just getting into the concert scene. As always friends, Rock on!
