Save the Hero - Omaha, NE
Hey everyone! This week, I'm keeping with the theme of unique hard rock bands. If you like what I've been throwing at you so far, this band will be your next obsession.
Save the Hero is a three man band from way up north in Omaha, Nebraska. Made up of twin brothers Alex (vocals, bass) and Matt DiBaise (backup vocal, guitar) and Gage McClain (drums), Save the Hero first appeared on the rock scene in 2005 as Cold Steel. In 2014, Save the Hero released their self-titled debut album pushing their single "Changes" onto radio stations across the Midwest. Two short years later, Save the Hero released their EP titled "Victims and Villains" with the hit single "Life of Crime."
Save the Hero's music can be compared to hard rocking groups like Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, and Three Days Grace, yet they have a very unique aspect to their trio. As their Facebook page (click here) describes, Save the Hero showcases "crushing drums" layered behind heavy riffing guitars and Save the Hero's "patent twin vocals." The way that Alex and Matt feed off of and interchange vocals gives them a unique sound in the heavy rock scene. Listen to the live version of their first hit single "Changes" below:
Even more great music by them can be found on YouTube, Spotify, and iTunes.
As well as being incredible in the studio, Save the Hero also puts on an astounding live show. Concert patrons watching this band get a glimpse into how close knit this trio is. Watching the DiBaise twins feed off of each other as well as the drums is truly a site to see. Alex, Matt, and Gage really love what they do. I have seen these guys four or five times in concert (three of which took place over a four month period) and even though the setlist remained mostly the same, the show was always mind-blowing. I distinctly remember at one of their shows before playing "Life of Crime," the twins discussed how it was a song about robbing a bank but made it very clear to the audience that they had never robbed a bank. They also made it very clear that the audience shouldn't rob any banks either. Humor like this is sprinkled all throughout their sets and really gives the audience a sense of connection to the band.
On top of being sociable on stage, the guys in Save the Hero are always ready to strike up a conversation back stage at their merchandise booth. They are always ready to talk pictures, sign merch, or just chill and talk music. After the last show I saw them at, the members of the band actually recognized me and asked how the drive was (since I live 2 hours from there) and hugged me and my friend. Instances like that show that these guys truly care about their fans and really want to get to know them. We even attempted to recreate the first picture my friend and I took with them as scene above (you can decide if it was successful or not).
Like I always say, these guys are up-and-coming so be sure to check them out for upcoming concert dates, new music, and new merchandise. Supporting them helps them get farther!
Well that's it for this week everyone! Hope you enjoyed this band as much as I do, and I'll be back next week with another rockin' band!
