Searching for Nostalgia is a post-hardcore, five-piece band from all the way over in Springfield, Missouri. They consist of Braden Proctor ("clean" vocals), Derek Berry (guitar), Ethan McMichael (guitar), Camron Enciu ("unclean" vocals), and Corey Lowry (drums). Searching for Nostalgia recently released their debut, self-titled album and have been traveling all over garnering support and finding new fans since.

At first glance, it's easy to classify this band as just another rock band, however, they are anything but. The band describes their style as "anywhere from light, upbeat and punky to low, heavy, and hard-hitting" and I couldn't say it any better! Listening to their music makes one yearn for a certain kind of nostalgic, classic pop-punk sound but also brings the experience of something unique and brand new. The mix of melodic and heavy hitting guitar riffs gives listeners a new experience every time they listen. The offsetting of singing and screaming allows listeners to sing as well as headbang and mosh. It's truly beautiful.

Check out one of the songs from their album below:

It's easy to see how these guys have made such a name for themselves in the Springfield area. More great music by them can be found on YouTube, iTunes, and Spotify. I honestly listened to the whole album while writing this post trying to decide which song was my favorite. Unfortunately, I can't tell you because I love all of them! Each song has a unique sound and feel to it, and it seems unfair to try to choose between them, so go give the album a listen and decide for yourself!

Now you've probably been reading this and wondering how a girl from northeast Kansas found a band from all the way in southwest Missouri. Well, let me tell you. I first discovered Searching for Nostalgia at a concert in Topeka, KS. I was blown away by their performance! They made the most of the tiny stage they were placed on. The energy the band gave off was intoxicating; it was easy to tell they love what they do! The guitarists bounced around in time to the music while they played, and the singers fed off of each other throughout the set. I decided then and there I just had to know more about them. So, I went back to their merchandise table and struck up a conversation. I was absolutely blown away when they said they had driven all the way from Springfield (about a 4-hour drive). I was more surprised to learn later that these guys frequent the Kansas City music scene. I honestly can't wait to see them live again.

With that being said, if you don't live in the area be sure to check out their music and support the band. Follow them on Facebook (hey click here) to keep up to date on concerts and new music, and remember: helping out a local band helps out the community. It helps keep them on the road, making music, and doing the things they love. Searching for Nostalgia is a homegrown rock band that deserves all the attention and support they can get so be sure to check them out!

Well, that's all for this week everyone! Leave me a comment letting me know what bands I should cover next. Rock on!
