Hembree - Kansas City, MO

Welcome back rockers! Hope you've been enjoying these posts so far! This week I'm straying away from the harder rock scene and showing you something a little more on the alternative side. Fans of bands like Foreign Air, Night Riots, Joywave, and Sir Sly will LOVE this band.

This week I give you local, home-grown heroes Hembree! This three man band from Kansas City is composed of Isaac Flynn, Garrett Childers, and Eric Davis. Hembree has been around since 2015 although many members of the band were playing and touring long before that. They dropped their first single "Can't Run Forever" in late 2015 and released their first EP titled "Had It All" two years later in 2017. To celebrate their first release, the band went out on the "Had It All" tour traveling from Missouri to the East Coast, all the way up into Canada. Since then, Hembree has gained quite the reputation not only in the KC area but across the Midwest and continues to gain traction in the alternative scene.

The alternative music scene is expanding rapidly which leads people to ask: "What makes these guys so different from other alternative bands?" Well, let me tell you! Hembree may be classified as alternative, but this band has one unique sound. By blending heavy guitar riffs with light background drums, every listener gets a different feeling from each song. Isaac brings a beautiful, melodic quality to the instrumentals with heavy vocals and harmonious lyrics. It's truly music to the ears. Literally. Take a listen to their most popular song "Holy Water" (which has almost 1 million listens on Spotify) below.

The first time I heard Hembree's music, I was walking across campus listening to an alternative music playlist on Spotify. The song "Holy Water" (the one you heard above) started playing, and I was shocked! The song was heavy hitting, catchy, harmonious, and all around incredible! I glanced at who the song was by, added it to my personal playlist, and started listening to it on repeat. It wasn't until I heard Hembree perform "Holy Water" live while opening for Joywave in KC, that I realized the incredible band I had heard a month prior was from right here in KC!

Once I found that out, I had to track them down after the show and talk to them. I was able to snag a quick word with Eric. I told him how much I loved their song "Holy Water" and how unique the sound was. He smiled really big and said to me, "I'm so glad you know that's our song!" I was confused until he mentioned that dozens of people would come up to him after shows and tell him how much they loved the cover. "No that's not a cover. That's our song!" he said. We talked and laughed a little more after that. Eric told me about all the upcoming shows they had and about living in KC. All in all, he was incredibly nice! I can't wait to get out and see them again! They really do love their fans.

On top of all this, Hembree's live show is e-lec-tric! The energy is contagious! These guys bounce around on stage interacting with each other and the crowd non-stop. They play their hearts out at every show they go to. If you have a chance to catch them in the KC, do it! You won't regret it! If you don't live near KC though, fear not! Hembree can be found all over the internet! Find more music by them on Youtube, Spotify, iTunes, and Bandcamp. Or follow them all the social media! (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) They post all of their upcoming concerts and events so be sure to follow them to see what's happening.

Well everyone, that's all for this week. Remember to go out and support local music by going to shows, buying merchandise, and listening to music! These guys and others all deserve your attention and more! Thanks again for reading my blog, and I hope to see you again next week! Until then, keep on rockin'!
